Established on May 21, 1729, Wolmer's Schools in Kingston, Jamaica, constitute the oldest continuously operating high school system in the Caribbean. The institution was founded through the last will and testament of John Wolmer, a Kingston goldsmith, who left the bulk of his estate—amounting to £2,360 sterling—to establish a "free school" in the parish where he passed away. The Trust is established by law.

First Wolmer’s Day
21 May is proclaimed Wolmer’s Day by the Governor-General. The only Jamaican school so recognised.

295 Years
Wynter announces the Wolmer’s 300 Technology and Multimedia Expansion Programme. In November the solar array is commissioned.

297 Years
Construction on the Sixth Form Block began in July. Douglas Orane passed the 300 torch to Principal Dwight Pennycooke.

MASSIVE SOLAR ELECTRICITY
GENERATION SYSTEM
Wolmerian engineer and technology serial entrepreneur, Silicon Valley based Lloyd Carney, has led an initiative to install solar electricity generation across all three Wolmer’s campuses.
In collaboration with Wolmer’s Trust, the system has been commissioned at a cost of US$445,000, with Lloyd Carney being the major donor with a most generous personal gift of US$323,000.

Wolmerians and Friends of Wolmer’s website, dedicated to providing information and preserving the traditions of Wolmer’s Schools.
As we celebrate our 25th anniversary (Wolmer’s Schools 290th year of continuous existence), the WAASF has continuously increased its commitment to the welfare of Wolmer’s Schools, building relationships with hundreds of alumni and incorporating members with graduation dates from the 1950s to the early 2000s.
